Asphalt Paving

Asphalt paving is laying a surface of asphalt on top of a prepared sub-base or base. It is a standard method for constructing roads, parking lots, and other pavements.

The asphalt paving process typically begins with preparing the sub-base or base by removing existing pavement, grading and compacting the soil, and adding a layer of aggregate material. This layer of aggregate is then compressed to create a stable base for the asphalt.

Once the base is prepared, a layer of asphalt mixture is applied on top of it. The asphalt mixture comprises aggregates, such as gravel or crushed stone, and a binder, such as bitumen, which holds the totals together. The mixture is heated to a high temperature, typically between 300 and 350 degrees Fahrenheit, before being applied to the base.

The asphalt is spread over the base using a paving machine, which ensures a uniform thickness and a smooth surface. The asphalt is then compacted using a roller, which compresses the mixture and helps it adhere to the base. Once the asphalt has cooled and hardened, it can be used for traffic.

Asphalt paving has several advantages over other methods, including durability, low maintenance, and cost-effectiveness. Asphalt pavements are flexible and can withstand weather conditions without cracking or breaking.
